Whatever happened?
Whatever happened to the infamous maggot woman of Texas City? There have been no new entries on the internet and no follow up in the news stations locally. There are so many unanswered questions and they seem to have been dropped into the file marked “oblivion”.
Back in December of 2008 the news story of the maggot woman was aired and discussed all over the world in a hundred languages and cultures. Today there is not one query or comment that I can find. Did the woman, Linda Sue Sainz live to tell her story of how she came into this deplorable situation? Was her missing son to blame for her condition? Was he simply heartless or was he simply unable to deal with her condition? Has he been jailed for his neglect? Does she blame her son? Has she received aid of any kind? What is her condition today?
The former Galveston County dispatcher has undergone quite a traumatic ordeal and maybe she should be left alone. But, I believe, and I hope others do also, that this case needs some closure in the public’s eye. After all, we are a nation of senior citizens and anyone of us could find ourselves in the same condition if we are not made aware in advance. Senior neglect seems to have fallen off the radar at a time when the Baby Boomers have reached a ripe old age.
Our news media needs to learn to follow through on its news stories and not depend on just the sensationalistic parts only. I hope we all rise up and ask “Whatever happened?”
