Being elderly Mr Dprince knows
In two days Mr Dprince will turn another year older, 53, if my counting is correct. The years have gone by so fast. Now, they seem to have crawled to a crawl. What will lay ahead for him? What lays ahead for any one who becomes a part of the senior citizen population…the elderly?
Mr Dprince knows firsthand what may or may not be in store for many of our white haired generation. He has seen his father pass away from this life about ten years ago, a victim of liver cancer. Today marks the anniversary of the beginning of his demise. It was a short illness, his death occurred on April 8. But before he was gone he promised to be home for Mr Dprince’s birthday April 2 and he kept that promise. He lay in peace at home in his own bed.
Today, Mr Dprince cares for his 73 year old mother. It is not an easy task and one filled with a lot of tension and strife. There is much pain and heartache visible in his life, but, it does not matter. First and foremost, there is love, and that is what drives him.
Growing up there were several ideas instilled into his personality and character makeup. Love and love of family were first. The importance of life and liberty came next. Honor and truth followed by loyalty and dignity. All these things wrapped into a very idealistic and naive man are undoubtedly prone to personal pain. It has been true. But, this pain is of little importance when compared to the pain of others in need, and so he tries to be an example. At the least, he tries to guide others in the right direction of life.
The costs of such a life have been high. The personal rewards have been great. Another day..another birthday. We grow older and experience what being elderly is like. It needs to be a time of dignity and not a time of remorse or sadness. This Mr Dprince knows.
